WHAT'S MY NAME? Kristine Esguerra

Growing up, I chose to put work before my studies especially when I had to live on my own at an early age since my parents moved out of state and I chose to stay in CA. At some point I was going to school and working 3 jobs, which is why it took me longer to finish school. Money definitely was a barrier because I really did not want to take out loans since I don’t like owing money.

Eventually, I knew I had to, in order to finish school. I put myself through undergrad and with the support of my family, especially [my husband] Josh, I was able to get into pharmacy school to obtain my doctor of pharmacy degree, with 1 year left to go. Some challenges definitely include being a mom.

It isn’t always the easiest to study with a toddler always fighting for your attention. When I first started school, I had a 1-year-old and he was and still is definitely a mama’s boy. A second challenge is working 4-5 days a week and still trying to maintain family life and keep up with school work. With my schedule, I barely get any sleep at all. I do my best to try and maintain a work/life balance, but it is a struggle and sometimes I find myself wanting to quit everything. I remind myself why I am doing this and whenever I see my son’s face, it just motivates me to keep pushing through and know that ultimately I will reach my goal.

In the end, everything will be worth it and I will be able to take care of my family as planned. Just always remember to set your goals in front of you and keep working and persevering to reach those goals.
